My Body Inside and Out by Anne Townsend, Lion Publishing 850 North Grove Ave., Elgin IL 60120, 1994, 20 pages (available from Reasons to Believe (800)482-7836 or reasons@reasons.org)

We have had strong positive response from our book reviews of children's books--so here is another one. This is a profusely illustrated hardback book in four-color print. Written for ages eight to eleven, this 20-page book with large pages discusses the workings of the human body. All parts of the body are explained--skin, hair, nails, teeth, brain, nerves, senses, ears, heart, blood, lungs, stomach, intestines, kidneys, bones, and muscles. In addition, there is a four page sex education section that is very concise, but covers the subject well and is tastefully done.

The book concludes with the subject of death and what happens after death, making a quick reference to what Christians believe. There is at least one other quick reference to God in the book, but this is not primarily a theological work. To help children understand how their bodies work, this book is hard to beat. It is positive toward Christian belief, but that is as far as it goes. We recommend it highly to parents who want a good beginning book on how the body works
